Seedlings by Alyson Davies explores human connection with nature through autobiographical paintings, which also consider personal histories and the domestic experience. Small experiences are memorialized in the artwork that offer moments of contemplation and stillness. Bold colours, flattened spaces, patterning and exaggerated proportions create worlds just removed from reality. The act of growing gardens directly influences her work where narrative moments are anchored by seasonality and other natural cycles.

About the Artist

Alyson Davies is a visual artist based in Edmonton, AB (amiskwaciwâskahikan, Treaty 6 Territory). In the studio Davies studies moments of connection with nature intertwined with personal histories and autobiographical storytelling. Her multidisciplinary studio practice primarily focuses on painting, cyanotype printmaking and ceramics. She holds a MFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design and BFA from the University of Alberta. Her artwork has been shown across Canada and the United States.
