A Hidden Autobiography

directed by Kiera Shaw | interpreted by Sophie Dow

Inspired by embodied experiences of physical and imagined adventures, a hidden autobiography is a celebration of setting forth on a personal journey; an ode to the ‘rogue traveler.’ By placing interpreter Sophie Dow in a series of literal and figurative images, the piece emerges as an athletic meditation on cultivating a personal energetic life force. It has a silent, momentous strength, is vigorous in nature, and honours the importance of travel, in a time when it was not allowed.

Journals of Adoption

choreographed by and featuring Sophie Dow | mentorship by Olivia C Davies

Journals of Adoption is a sifting and movement through 2 journals of origin: one text from Sophie’s birth mother’s pregnancy and process of offering her up; the other text from her own reflections, queries, and ruminations as an adopted child.

Lamina

(Tue, June 4 and Thu, June 6 only)

choreographed by and featuring Pigeon Breeders (Myles Bartel and Will Scott) in Collaboration with Tia Ashley Kushniruk and Deviani Andrea

Lamina is an instant composition practise devised by Pigeon Breeders in collaboration with Tia Ashley Kushniruk and Deviani Andrea. Using the concept of opposing modalities and sonic landscapes, Lamina is an exploration into how oppositions can blend and separate through improvisational stanzas and instant composition.

Lamina plays in the SYNAPTIC program on Tuesday, June 4 and Thursday, June 6 only.

Clickbait

(Friday, June 7 only)

choreographed and performed by Rumi Jeraj and Max Hanic

A duet that is as fast paced and ultimately as absurd as a scroll through one’s tik tok feed. We are changing and translating constantly and we are giving nothing and everything at the same time.

Clickbait plays in the SYNAPTIC program on Friday, June 7 only.

Clickbait also plays in the SPATIAL program on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9.

Our dance showcases are curated by our friends at Good Women Dance Collective, showcasing emerging choreography and movement.

This year’s dance programming features an eclectic gathering of artists from across the country whose creative journeys have been marked by their time at the waypoint of Edmonton, somewhere along the way. In that same spirit, we hope that these projects may also leave a mark on your journey with dance, wherever you may be.
