“Communities are strongest when people help each other succeed. One of the most rewarding parts of my career has been seeing individuals and organizations achieve goals that once seemed out of reach. Those successes are often possible because others chose to invest their time, support, and encouragement.”

Jason Desaulniers is the president of Excalibur Executive Planning, a financial planning business and season sponsor of Theatre Network. He “fell into” the banking industry in the ’90s while studying English, Philosophy, and Art History at university, eventually switching to finance. Today, he’s passionate about the financial industry and takes pride in helping people make informed decisions and build confidence in their financial future.

We chatted with Jason about his work in financial planning, what draws him to theatre, and why supporting local arts organizations helps build a stronger Edmonton community.

TN: Tell us about yourself!

JD: I am President of Excalibur Executive Planning. I have been helping business owners and their families with financial planning since 1996. My goal is to help people make informed decisions and build confidence in their financial future. We are a holistic firm, and offer services that range from Employee Health and Retirement benefits, to investment and retirement planning, including decumulation plans for retirees; as well as risk management planning in the form of life and health insurance.

TN: What was your first experience with Theatre Network and what keeps you coming back?

JD: Briana Miller [a member of Theatre Network’s board] invited us to a few openings and shows, and I was impressed by the passion and creativity of the people involved. Theatre Network creates meaningful experiences that bring people together, and I believe supporting local arts organizations helps make Edmonton a stronger and more vibrant community.

TN: With all of your many certifications, connections, and experiences, what is something you love about theatre and the arts?

JD: I love how theatre tells stories that connect people. The arts encourage creativity, conversation, and understanding, and they bring communities together in a unique way.

TN: What other Edmonton community endeavours or interests that you support?

JD: I support a variety of organizations, including the annual Ruck for Remembrance event that supports Wounded Warriors; volunteering annually at the Edmonton Folk Fest; and various other endeavours as they come up!

TN: In your opinion, what is the importance of community members supporting and sponsoring one another?

JD: Communities are strongest when people help each other succeed. One of the most rewarding parts of my career has been seeing individuals and organizations achieve goals that once seemed out of reach. Those successes are often possible because others chose to invest their time, support, and encouragement.
