The Light of Other Skies: a love story in sketches

The architect Arthur Erickson gave Canada some of its most celebrated buildings, including Simon Fraser University, the University of Lethbridge, and the Museum of Anthropology. For nearly forty years, his partner in work and love was Francisco Kripacz, a dazzling interior designer. Although in private they shared an extraordinary life—travelling the world, befriending Trudeaus and movie stars, and reaching utopian highs and tragic lows—in public, they could never say what they meant to each other.

Decades later, a young architecture student goes searching through their archive of blueprints, letters, home movies, and headlines. As he imagines his way into their lives, their architecture rises from the archive. The Light of Other Skies moves in luminous fragments, asking what we can truly know about those who came before us, and what we choose to build from what remains.
