This exhibition is of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Nova Scotia landscapes where I have spent a lot of time painting and exploring. The painting of the Kananaskis depicts the distant mountains veiled in clouds and conveys the crisp cool air and foliage along the river’s edge. The artwork of the summer flowers is an area close to Batoche and the North Saskatchewan River where a farmer let the wildflowers bloom along the canola field instead of planting hay. The winter landscape is of the view from our barn studio looking out at the North Saskatchewan River. Coastal Flowers depicts flowers blooming close to the ocean along the south shore of Nova Scotia at a special place named White Point.

My artwork consists of two-dimensional acrylics on canvas, primarily landscape based. The choice of what and where to paint often involves a lot of searching. As I paint, my original intent often mutates, becoming something quite different in the finished work. Regardless, and although sometimes a struggle, a very physical grappling with form, color and paint, the process is immensely satisfying.

Catherine Perehudoff Fowler

I have a deep connection with prairie landscapes such as canola fields with borders of tangled wildflowers. Along with sparkling colours, summer clouds, and reflections on water, they are a thrill to encounter and so interesting to paint.

Rebecca Perehudoff

I look for a view conveying a certain mood, one that poses questions. How would it feel to dive into that ripe wheat, what makes that sunny meadow feel mysterious or what is on that lone island or beyond that wall of dark trees?
