Dance @ Nextfest Program 2: DANCE VARIETY

Unexpected Transformation
choreographed by Andy Fitzgerald

Following a tragic event in my personal life, I have been forced to find new meaning, let go of future aspirations and what I thought I knew, and figure out how to walk through this new life and live again. My dancers will represent this part of my journey in loss, losing myself and trying to find myself- the complete transition of finding ‘the new me’. I want to thank my dancers who have been so committed, supportive and such a safe space to be vulnerable and share this part of my healing journey.

Featuring Claudia Boukes, June Chen, Kristin Dombroski, Katy Flannigan, Isis Lunsky, Leila Ranta, Kim Smith, Liesl van Jaarsveldt, Erika Walters, Cassandra Woit

Decomposing among cake and moss and maggots and monsters
choreographed by Katherine MacKenzie

Inspired by the novel “The Edible Woman” by Margart Atwood, Katherine has worked with her dancers to build an expressive, discomforting piece exploring body dysmorphia through a feminist perspective.

Featuring Chi Le, Mikayla Brown, Hanna Thakore, Summer Chu, Madison Arseneault, Andres Romero Sanchez

Cosmic Circus
choreographed by Avery Denington

Cosmic Circus is an awe inspiring journey through space following the crew on an interstellar mission. As the crew careens through the cosmos they journey through galaxies, meet alien life, experience the thrill of weightlessness and learn the value of friendship and teamwork. This piece utilizes each individual’s unique skills, from jaw dropping acrobatics to gravity defying aerial arts to tell this intergalactic story.

Featuring Alexis, Anela, Aubrey, Laila, Lily, Oliana, Pippy

What She Saw
choreographed by Emma Lynn

What She Saw is a solo performance translating eleven years of personal journal entries into movement, voice, and sound. Through physical theatre and contemporary dance, the work traces the emotional landscape of growing from adolescence into adulthood, transforming private reflection into an embodied experience shared with the audience.

Featuring Mathieu Laroux, Alisia Pobega, Eden Solemen, Jean Bui, Zao Dinel
