Adopt an Artist

It’s time for Nextfest… Do you know where your artist is?

Nextfest, is one of the largest festivals of its kind in Canada. Every year Nextfest draws hundreds of talented young artists for 11-days dedicated to the creation and presentation of art. The multidisciplinary festival, running June 4-14 this year, provides emerging artists the opportunity to share their work with eager audiences and grow into working professionals. Many well-established artists from Edmonton—like Chris Craddock, Amy Shostak, Colleen Brown, and Mitchmatic—were able to use Nextfest as a stepping-stone in their professional arts careers. Nextfest is key to the development of our local artists and is a vital part of Edmonton’s cultural identity.

This year, we face a unique challenge with the loss of both The Roxy Theatre and the ARTery. The Roxy Theatre housed theatre, dance, film, poetry, visual art and many additional events; The ARTery housed the infamous NiteClubs and our music series. These two venues cannot be easily replaced; in fact we have had to find individual venues for each discipline. Having multiple venues spread across the city will create wide spread excitement and audience engagement, but will also put strain on our resources.

You can support Nextfest’s artists in their development by participating in the Adopt-an-Artist program. At just $100 per adoption, the program assures that the emerging artists who participate in Nextfest 2015 get a first-rate experience in the professional arts world and are remunerated for their work. With every $100 adoption, you can select an artist or artist in a specific discipline to “adopt”. All Adopters will receive a charitable receipt for the full amount donated from Theatre Network.

If you are interested in adopting an artist contact Theatre Network by phone (780) 453 2440 or email info@theatrenetwork.ca. You can also drop by any of the venues as part of Nextfest 2015 to snag a donation card and mail it back to us.
